The food is fresh and amazing! Not what you would expect from a joint with such a kiddish name. Tortilla shells and everything else hand made. Fish Tacos were great and they let my picky wife custom order her chimichanga just the way she wanted it...This place isn't just a one size fits all microwaveable taco dinner! Shout out to the wait staff as well, you were terrific.

You know you're at a good Mexican restaurant when you the waiter greets you with a pumped fist while taking out the trash. This place is as authentic as you can get. All the cooks and several waitresses were Hispanic. They also make most of their food in house. Their salsa is to die for!! :). You cannot go wrong. There's also indoor and outdoor seating. If you sit outside they have a mist fan going. Our waitress was extremely nice. Always checked on us can't rave enough about this place. Will def go back when we visit hot springs Arkansas again.

Very good and well priced. I got the vegetarian enchalatas and my wife had tacos. The tortilla's were homemade and the refried beans were delicious. Great road trip stop. Don't pass it up. Our server was awesome too.

  • Jack H.

Absolutely delicious! I love the shredded beef (picadillo?) Its full of flavor! The sides are really good and fresh too. Nice staff and I like the 80's and classic rock piped in at lunch! I really it here!

First let me explain. I love everything about the place except the portion size of the fish taco. The salsa and chips were great. The side order of guacamole was great. The waitress was great. Our table was clean ( the floor was filthy ) and the silverware and plates clean. The flour tortilla was nice and the rice and beams were tasty. My only complaint was the portion of the grilled fish in the taco. The avocado slice was as big as the fish.

I know. I'm not supposed to like Mexican food in Arkansas, especially Tex-Mex. But they do a version of puffy tacos here that could hold its own in San Antonio where the dish originated. Maybe not as puffy as you'd find on the Riverwalk, but these were delicious. Also try the queso with beans & chorizo. Quality stuff. Eating here made me happy.

  • Andy K.

Puffy Tacos were awesome! Kids loved their soft and hard tacos. Crab nachos have real fresh crab. I would Definitely recommend Taco Mama's if you are in Hot Springs.

I had high hopes for this place. When I walked in I was greeted by a smiling face and sat promptly. I could see in the kitchen ladies chopping fresh vegetables and I was ready to finally eat delicious Mexican food. Unfortunately the only some what good thing was the salsa and the hope of what was to come. I ordered shredded beef sopes and tortilla soup. I waited almost an hour and a half for my food!!!! The soup was weird not like any tortilla soup I've ever had. It was goopey and not very authentic. The sopes were the same not like other sopes I've had and it didn't taste Mexican it tasted like pot roast. It sucked. I guess you live and learn. Still searching for good Mexican in Arkansas.

I love this place, but I'm changing my review to 4 stars from 5 because during the week the food and service is not as good.

  • Laura F.

Hands down one of the best Mexican places in Arkansas and one of the very few where you can get New Mexico green chile. None of the cookie cutter or bland Mexican food you find at all the other places. This is much closer to what you find in New Mexico and other places out West. Just need one in downtown NLR now.

Easily the best food we ate in Hot Springs. Let's go in order: The salsa is awesome. It's dark and obviously has something roasted in it. It has just a little kick which is a good thing. We shared the nachos and the puffy tacos. The Nachos were excellent. Had cheese and beans and other goodies on them. The puffy tacos were good as well, but not quite as good as the nachos. I'm not a puffy tacos afficionado so I can't speak to how good they actually were. Definitely worth a visit if you're from out of town.

My wife and I went for lunch and had a very good experience! We each ordered a margarita, since we are on vacation. She had the Beer Margarita and I had the Verona Margarita, which is a Cucumber Melon Margarita. Both were pretty tasty. Our server, Rob (pictured above), was awesome, very helpful and had lots of good suggestions for us. We both got tacos, obviously because the place is called Taco Mama. Rob suggested the Fish Tacos, saying they were the best he's had. I have to admit, I kind of agree! I would definitely recommend them. My wife had the Shrimp Tacos. She liked them, but not as good as the Fish Tacos!

Not really knowing Hot Springs, I checked Yelp for a good spot to eat dinner and Taco Mama caught my eye. The place was packed, but the wait was only 10 minutes. They were having a special on strawberry lemonade maragaritas, after having a sample I had to order it. It was yummy, didn't taste too strong, but it sure had me giggling. The salsa and chips had a kick to it and I like that it had no onions. I ordered the Dos Equis Marinated Beef Fajitas and I loved it. The portion is smaller than other places but ot fulls you up. They give you hand made flour tortillas with it. Our waiter was nice and attentive. The ambience is chill and you can seat outside in the patio with mist spraying.

House frozens are good and not too sweet or fake tasting. I ordered the carnitas tostada and a steak puffy taco and it was all fresh and tasty. Visiting from Texas and was told how great this food is- found it hard to believe until I tried it myself! I would absolutely be a regular if I lived in Hot Springs.

Decent food. Took a while for dinner to arrive, but worth the wait. Margaritas tasty.

3 of us went for dinner on May 21. The margarita was watered down, had no hint of tequila and no flavor. My friend said it reminded her of "dish water". I ordered a combo with chicken enchilada and a beef tostado. I have to say that it was the worst Mexican food I've ever had. There was absolutely no flavor and I'd swear the chicken was canned. The chicken tortilla soup had no broth, it was a bowl of beans with a few red chips and 2 slices of avocado on top. The locals told us they made everything fresh and from scratch everyday but I don't believe it. Their chips are definitely not made there. We're from out of town and usually go to Jose's when in Hot Springs, such of stuck with it.

Visiting from out of town and looking for something yummy. Following a great experience at Cafe 1217 we figured this would be a good follow up since they're co-owned. The food was really good but our service was outstanding. Our waiter, Robert, was fantastic. He was patient and attentive to our large family.

I always ask to sit on the bar side. The bar is so pretty! Fish tacos are the BEST in town. Oh the tamales are amazing too. My friend had beef ribs and the potatoes were AMAZING! I've never had a bad meal! They have a regular bar tender now so the drinks are good as well. I love love love this place and the owner is AMAZING! Best fresh Mexican. Muah!

  • Kevin C.

Absolutely loved this place! I recommend the sofe and the puffy tacos (especially with carnitas meat). Free delicious salsa and chips were also a major plus.

  • Paul W.

Our group of four was in the mood for Mexican today and Taco Mama's was close by and had some pretty decent Yelp reviews. We were not disappointed. Salsa was good and the chips were excellent! We ordered queso and guacamole and they were both very good. We all ordered Tuesday's lunch special--chimichangas--and they were excellent. The service today was nothing special but more than adequate. So many Mexican restaurants try to make up for mediocre food by serving huge portions. Not so at Taco Mama's. TM's food is way above average and the portions seemed just about right. No one went away hungry but no one was stuffed either. This place is a solid four stars.

    (4)
  • Lisa S.

This place is awesome. Clean and nice looking. Bathrooms were spotless! Food was traditional but just different enough to seep rate it from all other Mexican places. My 4 yo ate happily (which isn't always easy) with her cheese quesadilla. Nice amount of cheese and not swimming in grease. Everything we got was wonderful. (Tortilla soup, puffy taco, chili re(something), chicken burrito. The rice is cilantro and jalapeño rice so definitely different and a little kick to it. Plus our server was awesome. I've never seen a server work as hard as he did!

  • Captain V.

Not a tex-mex, this has some kicked up Mexican style food. I find myself craving for the green Chili pepper Burger! Spicy, with a roasted jalapeño pepper tooth picked on top! Stuffed jalapeño peppers are different than I have ever tasted... A must try! And you can have all the fresh roasted jalapeño peppers you desire. Duck tacos, crab quesadilla and always have creative specials. Recommended pairing; Draft dos XXX in a frosted goblet Kicked up slaw Green Chili-pepper Burger

Stopped in yesterday for my first visit at Taco Mamas, and I'm glad that I placed my order to go. Wow! The noise in that place is so loud you can't even begin to have a conversation and this was after the lunch rush around 2:00pm or after! I ordered my chile relleno plate to go. I was told where to set and wait, then I decided to check out the bathroom while I was there, and it was clean. And they use premium paper, ladies but no seat covers. Any how, my order was up at a reasonable amount of time and I left. I did not know that I was to get free chips and salsa with my order, like everyone else. So that's one reason why I gave a low score. The chile relleno plate was not appetizing looking at all. No yellow cheese sause or salsa was on my chile relleno but the flavor of it, was as expected. I prefer yellow cheese sauce on top of my chile relleno and an order of salsa on top of that thus making a chile relleno really great tasting and filling, for the cheesy filled pepper. The rice, was horrible. Reminded me of how gym socks smell. And the refried beans were soupy. The flavor of the chile relleno was the only saving grace. I will go back to try some other things but so far? Not impressive. The price...$9.00 for rice I couldn't eat, no free chips and salsa, soupy refried beans, and for a plain-Jane looking, chile relleno:(

This restaurant is awesome!! Tortilla soup is wonderful as is the homemade tamales. However, the margarita on the rocks was outstanding!!!!!!!!!

Lengua chilequiles were good, tacos were ok, and the strawberry margaritas were good. This place is a great value for the money.

  • Tammy R.

Service was great and food was amazing and inexpensive. I had the beer battered tilapia- fish tacos with rice and beans as a side along with chips and salsa. All were yummy and left with a $12 bill plus tip and couldn't eat all the food. I will be back next time in Hot Springs!

    (5)
  • Bonnie C.

Ate here with a friend tonight. I ordered the Salad Bowl, which was delicious. The ingredients were fresh. The host and server were friendly, helpful and efficient. Why not 5 stars? The noise level was high enough to interfere with conversation. I think an early lunch is the best time to go. I'll definitely be back soon.

  • El T.

Ok service, bland salsa and really awful food. I was extremely disapponited after the great talk up by a co worker. This place is sitting just under the average Arkansas mexican food joint. My dish (Chile Relleno) was almost inedible. THe tempura style batter was way overcooked and the sauce was not seasoned properly for the dish. It was just warm tomato sauce over a burnt chile. The sides were also lacking of flavor. If you like bland, greasy and no heat, then this might be your place.

    (1)
  • Jon F.

This place is fantastic! The tamales were to die for. My wife LOVED the steak enchiladas. This is the place to go for great mexican food and atmosphere in Hot Springs!

  • J L.

Visiting hot springs and found this place, and read some reviews on yelp. Good food and pretty good alcoholic drinks. This place is very comfy and not a big place. We both ordered the tacos plates and it was very delicious. Ingredients were fresh and they have different types of salsas you can choose from. Waitstaff was friendly too. I would return when I come visit again. ps-try the watermelon margaritas- they are delicious!

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.

An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate.
